More Information

Foster care is a method of providing a home for children and young people whose parents are unable to care for them. This can be due to a variety of factors, including temporary illness, domestic abuse, or the death of a primary carer.
Foster care is considered a separate process from adoption. Adoption is the provision of a new, permanent family for children who are unable to live with their own family. An adoption order transfers the child's legal relationship from their birth family to their new adoptive family, who become their legal guardians in all ways.

Adoption is the best option for a small percentage of children, with approximately 4,000 children in need of adoptive families each year.
