Xiaomi 12 and 12 Pro to be shipped with Snapdragon 8 Gen-1 SoC

Android transfers

Xiaomi’s long-awaited flagship phones, the Xiaomi 12 and Xiaomi 12 Pro were unveiled late Tuesday night in China. There wasn’t much news at the presentation because so much about the two devices and a cheaper third option had previously been revealed. Other geographies should see the devices sometime in the first quarter of 2022.

Brief Overview

The Snapdragon 8 Gen-1 SoC is used in the Xiaomi 12 and Xiaomi 12 Pro, putting them in line with other smartphones that use the flagship processor. The Galaxy S22, Oppo Find X4, and OnePlus 10 Pro are among them.

The two phones also come with Harman Kardon-tuned speakers that enable Dolby Atmos. The Xiaomi 12X is a cheaper version of the flagship that looks identical to the flagship but has a lower-end Snapdragon 870 processor. Nevertheless, the processor is capable enough to handle Android transfers and more.

Expected Price and Availability

The Xiaomi 12 costs CNY 3,699 for 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The 8GB RAM and 256GB storage variant costs CNY 3,999, while the top-end model with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage costs CNY 4,399.

Whereas, the Xiaomi 12 Pro costs CNY 4,699 for 8GB RAM and 128GB storage. The lowest-cost model has 8GB RAM and 256GB storage, while the highest-cost model has 12GB RAM and 256GB storage and costs CNY 5,399.

Lastly, the Xiaomi 12X with Snapdragon 870 SoC, which is the less expensive version of the Xiaomi 12, starts at CNY 3,199 for the basic model with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage. The lower-cost variant has 8GB RAM and 256GB storage, while the higher-end model has 12GB RAM and 256GB storage and costs CNY 3,799.

Xiaomi 12 Specifications

The Xiaomi 12 has a 6.28-inch AMOLED display with a refresh rate of 120Hz and support for HDR10. The resolution is 2400×1080 pixels, with a peak brightness of 1100 nits. Similar to the Xiaomi Mi 11, the screen is covered with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus.

Xiaomi compared the Xiaomi 12 to the iPhone 13 at the time of its debut, claiming that their phone is more small and portable than the latter, despite the fact that the difference in their size is measured in millimeters. The Xiaomi 12 is narrower and lighter, weighing only 180 grams.

It is equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Gen-1 SoC and up to 12GB LPDDR5 RAM. Onboard storage is also up to 256GB UFS 3.1. MIUI 12 is the phone’s operating system, which is based on Android 12. It has a 4500mAh battery that supports 67W wired and 50W wireless charging. It also contains a 10W reverse charging mechanism that can be used to charge other gadgets.

On the rear, a 50MP wide-angle main sensor with 3x optical zoom, a 13MP ultra-wide-angle sensor, and a separate macro sensor are included. A punch-hole cutout on the display houses a 32MP selfie camera.

Xiaomi 12 Pro Specifications

The Xiaomi 12 Pro has the same 6.73-inch AMOLED display as the Xiaomi 12 and looks identical. The screen resolution is 2K, with a peak brightness of 1500 nits and a dynamic refresh rate of 120Hz.

The Pro version has a slightly larger battery capacity of 4,600mAh, as well as a cable fast-charging option. The Xiaomi 12 Pro has 120W wired fast charging, but it still has 50W wireless fast charging. The Xiaomi Pro model, like the Xiaomi 12, allows 10W reverse charging.

Surprisingly, the Xiaomi 12 Pro, like the Mi 11 Ultra, has three 50MP sensors on the rear, however, there is a newer IMX707 sensor here that is significantly larger than the Mi 11 Ultra. The other two 50MP sensors, in addition to the wide-angle, are telephoto and ultra-wide.

All the variants in the Xiaomi12 lineup seem interesting. We cannot wait to test these out to deliver our final verdict.
