Google Pixel 6 & 6 Pro: Updates, Bugs, and Issues

Android transfers

The Pixel 6 series is one of Google’s most interesting and powerful offerings in recent years. Unlike the previous generation of Pixel devices, this year’s models are powered by Tensor, a custom SoC built by Google.

Further Modifications

While it is unknown which components are built by Google, the new Titan M2 security processor and the TPU for AI operations are unmistakably Google.

This is backed by a new aesthetic design that enhances the appeal of the Pixel smartphones. The Pixel 6 has a 6.4-inch 90Hz display, while the Pixel 6 Pro has a 6.7-inch 120Hz display that is guaranteed to attract attention.

According to Google, the in-house designed Tensor SoC is 80 percent quicker than the Pixel 5’s CPU, while the GPU will give a massive 370 percent performance boost. Basically, the device should be able to easily carry out functions such as Android transfers swiftly. Additionally, with the in-house SoC, Google will be able to better tune the CPU, similar to what Apple accomplished with the iPhone. Also, it appears that Google is attempting to differentiate the Pixel 6 Pro from the Pixel 6, with the former no longer being merely a bigger screen edition of the latter.

The Pixel 6 Pro has extra RAM and a 48MP telephoto lens, in addition to the price differential. Furthermore, the Pixel 6 Pro offers storage options of up to 512GB, compared to 256GB on the Pixel 6.

Software Upgrades

The Pixel 6 series will come pre-installed with Android 12. With that in mind, we’ll be keeping track of all the software updates for the Pixel 6 series, including security patches and bug fixes, in this area.

The last update was rolled out on December 31 in selected regions, for now, the upgrade has been halted.

Bugs and Other Difficulties

This year’s Pixel range, like the rest of the Pixel series, may have some software or hardware faults. We’ll keep an eye out for problems and issues with the Pixel 6 lineup and update our tracker on a regular basis so you don’t have to.

The following are just a handful of bugs and problems found in the Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro models:

  •  Inconsistent and slow Fingerprint scanner
  • Google Assistant voice typing option greyed out on Gboard app
  •  Noisy viewfinder while using cameras
  •  Messing with Pixel 6 animations can cause Always On Display issues
  •  Pixel 6 Wi-Fi constantly turning off
  •  Can’t open battery settings
  • Telegram app stuck at 60Hz
  •  Missing ‘Quick Phrases’ option in Google Assistant
  • Bluetooth audio playback occasionally pausing on YouTube, Spotify & other apps
  • Poor quality in the front-facing camera
  •  Accessibility Service freezes the system
  • System UI not responding
  •  App update stuck at pending

The aforementioned are just some of the plethora of bugs found on the devices. In short, the devices might be the best that Google has ever put out but they are a bug-riddled mess making it hard for users at times to perform the simplest of functions. While the tech giant is addressing issues one at a time, it needs to start resolving issues at a faster pace if it wants to retain its users.
