Apple’s iPhone 12 was perhaps one of the most anticipated devices this year. The rumor mill churned up tons of leaks and speculations before the official release. While initially there were mixed reviews about the smartphone nevertheless it seems to be doing quite well now.

Recently, Apple has issued a service bulletin For owners of the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro. According to Apple, a “very small percentage” of iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro devices have a problem with the speakers. As a result, Apple issued a statement claiming that “If the receiver on your iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Pro does not generate a sound when making or receiving calls, it may be qualified for service. Apple or an Apple-certified Service Provider will provide free service to eligible devices.”

Apple to Repair Certain iPhone 12 Devices

It is worth mentioning, this issue only affects the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro; the iPhone 12 small and iPhone 12 Pro Max are unaffected. Besides this sound issue, all the variants can carry out functions such as iPhone transfers without any trouble. Apple is offering three choices to affected device users, with the caveat that affected handsets will be reviewed before any repair work is undertaken to ensure that each phone qualifies for the free repair program.

Finding an Authorized Apple Service Provider is one of the choices. You can also schedule a servicing appointment at an Apple Store near you. The third alternative is to contact Apple Support and arrange for your phone to be mailed back to Apple via the Apple Repair Center. Keep in mind that you’ll be asked to enter your Apple ID for all three alternatives.

Apple recommends backing up your iPhone on your computer or using iCloud before sending it in for service. To ensure that your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch is properly prepared for service, click this link, which will take you to a bulletin titled “Get your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch ready for service.”

The kicker, which is sure to irritate some iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro users who are qualified for the repair program, is this: According to Apple, “If your iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Pro has any damage that prevents the repair from being completed, such as a cracked screen, that issue must be repaired before the service can be performed. There may be a cost connected with the additional repair in some situations.”

Summing Up

The repair program is available worldwide and will last for two years following each unit’s first retail sale. Additionally, the program does not extend the current warranty on the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro. Furthermore, Apple reserves the right to limit the repair program to the original country or region of purchase.

If you have an iPhone 12 mini or iPhone 12 Pro Max, the free repair program does not apply to you. If you possess one of those devices and are experiencing a similar issue with it, you should contact Apple as soon as possible. While this new policy seems somewhat helpful, it does have drawbacks as mentioned above.
